Our story
The Hoofman brings passion, commitment and expertise to help farmers maintain healthy hooves in their herd and improve farm productivity.
Johan grew up on a beef farm in South Africa, where from an early age he was devoted to animal stockmanship and welfare. His love of animals led him to acquiring his National Diploma in Animal Health and becoming a qualified veterinary technician.
In 2008, Johan immigrated from South Africa to New Zealand. He adjusted to New Zealand’s farming systems by working on local dairy farms before gaining further experience in dehorning, pregnancy testing, AB and hoof trimming as an veterinary technician.
Johan was working with farmers every day, and he knew he could do more to help them tackle hoof issues, reduce lame cow cases, resolve reproduction issues and improve farming systems. This inspired him to found The Hoofman in August 2014, so he could provide expert hoof services to farmers in the Central North Island
Qualifications:
Qualified Veterinary Technician (Nat Dipl Animal Health).
Qualified and Registered Hoof Trimmer (NZ Hoof trimmers association).
Vice-President of New Zealand and Australia hoof trimmers association.

Genuinely cannot believe how amazing Johan is - first time observing Johan at work and can not rate him enough.

Today Johan gave my Scottish Highlander Morag a second chance at life. She had an infection brewing and had been lame for some time. I am absolutely thrilled with Johan's service, professionalism and calm and quiet manner. He was so patient with Morag as she was very hesitant about going into the crush, but he gave her the time she needed to settle and walk in.
